Sustainability at Ajuga

In 2021, Ajuga School formed a partnership with Georges River Environmental Education Centre to provide on site sustainability education to Ajuga students from kindergarten right through to Stage 6.

Through this partnership, Ajuga students are supported to develop knowledge, understanding and awareness of the environment and environmental challenges.

“Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better.” Albert Einstein

In 2022, Ajuga Students participated in a range of hands on learning in the Ajuga envrionment and beyond, including:

  • undertook biodiversity audits, recording minibeasts (mostly insects and spiders) and birds on the school grounds.
  • participated in the annual Citizen Science Aussie Bird Count and recorded the species and numbers of birds seen on school grounds. With the use of binoculars, it was noted that mostly large birds inhabit the grounds
  • with the assistance of GREEC  and Campbelltown Council staff, students planted a diverse range of smaller native shrubs to encourage smaller birds
  • added mulch to the gardens to increase the biodiversity of insects and lizards.
  • studied the pond water and revealed diverse macro-invertebrates and tadpoles.
  • supported the Campbelltown Council to install a sound meter at the frog pond to record which species of frogs inhabit the pond
